240 ft x 64 ft dairy shed incorporating two De Leval robotic milkers with internal feed passage and lean-to’s for robotic feed pusher and robotic scraper charging.
 
The shed has capacity for 128 cows in cubicles and slatted passages suspended over a 500,000 gallon underground tank and a straw bedded separation pen behind the robots. There are 8 bays of ventilation curtains controlled by a weather station on site. The wet rooms and robot rooms have cast in situ walls with precast concrete hollow core sealings.
 
Greenhill systems polycarbonate heatgaurd rooflights were used to increase natural light while reducing solar gain with an open-protected roof ridge to aid ventilation in the shed.

King George V Dock, Glasgow

Work is progressing well at King George V Dock in Glasgow after only 7 days of erection. The building is a 100m x 50m clear span x 8.6m high salt storage building. It will have 6m high retaining walls to the perimeter to give a capacity of 40,000 tonnes.
 
The 26m rafters are spliced in the middle for galvanizing and transport and will be bolted together on site to a combined weight of 12t per set of rafters.  
 
BHC will be supplying around 350t of steel, 7000m2 of cladding, 1250m3 of concrete slabs and installing 500t of precast retaining walls on this project.

Last year BHC completed a 200ft x 80ft grain store with separate drying bay complete with walking floor and maximum ventilation. We delivered the entire project from design and planning through to groundworks, erection, and concreting.

BHC have recently finished a job for Smithstone Equestrian Centre.
We erected a 60m x 30m riding arena with 46m x 10m stables in Stonehouse. BHC were responsible for the design and construction of steel,
cladding and  concrete works and the arena surfacing and stable fitout was carried out by our client.

Salt Store for BEAR Scotland

A recently completed Salt Storage Shed for BEAR Scotland in Burghmuir.

131ft x 98ft storage shed with 3m high precast concrete walls and concrete flooring. The client opted to leave the central bay of the shed open to allow access.

BHC were also responsible for the structural design including the provision of SER certification.

Grain Store for East Lothian Produce

Take a look at the Grain Store we recently completed for East Lothian Produce.

180ft x 100ft Grain Store with 3m shuttered walls and polished concrete floor completed and ready for door installation for a loyal returning customer. The client opted for precast panels on the front gable end to allow for future extension.

BHC were also responsible for all architectural and engineering works to obtain planning and building warrant permissions prior to the build with our in house team. Thanks to East Lothian Produce for the custom!

Take a look back at this impressive expansion of a Dairy Farm in the Highlands.

BHC were involved in the project early on, achieving both planning permission and building warrant before beginning onsite to construct three new sheds, each housing 220 cows. The new units boosted output to more than 35,000 litres per day.

Today our third-year apprentices got the opportunity to visit the site of a new Chicken Shed that our Agricultural division has recently been erecting.  The group of apprentices have been involved in the fabrication of the shed and were able to see their hard work and effort come to life as the Chicken Shed begins to take shape.
